The full name of the system is the Gyrotonic Expansion System®. “Gyrotonic®” is a shortened word for that – and it refers to the system as a whole, equipment and/or no equipment. Gyrokinesis® exercise falls under that umbrella, but it specifically refers to the matwork format – no equipment is used.
